Here is a list of some basic field trip etiquette:
DO’S
- Have the leader’s cell phone number
- Follow the leader’s instructions.
- Be punctual. If you are running late, having car trouble, etc, text the leader
- Pack all the camera gear needed to have a successful trip (but don’t overpack and hog someone else’s trunk space.)
- Bring whatever accessorties you need to make your trip comfortable: ie. sunscreen, bug spray, hat, etc.
- What is the weather? Layer appropriately
- What is the terrain? Wear the right kind of shoes
- Stay hydrated
- Know where to find toilet facilities … and use them to avoid your emergency becoming the group’s emergency
DON’TS
- Wander off by yourself
- Climb over fences
- Enter private property without permission
- Ignore your surroundings
- Talk over the leader on anyone giving instruction.
- Make too much noise
- Photograph others without permission
- Leave trash. Bring it in, pack it out. Give a Hoot! Don’t Pollute.
- Leave your gear.
- Hog the leader’s or someone else’s time. (they want to take photos too)
- Stiff your driver. If you carpool, pitch in.
