The Redlands Camera Club is a member of the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4C). S4C has existed since 1939 and has been a council member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) since 1953. The S4C currently has 17 member clubs ranging from San Diego to Santa Barbara to Palm Springs and Lancaster.
The mission of S4C is to hold image competitions allowing participants to compete in a broad number of categories against multiple other photographers. Competitions are held each month from October to April. Photographers may enter, AT NO CHARGE, up to 2 images in 7 categories. Although entry is free, each participant must first obtain a UEN (Uniform Entry Number) which can be requested at the S4C website. Based on PSA judging standards, images receive Awards and Honorable Mentions for photos meeting an established score. Entrants do not receive direct feedback on their images, but an extensive catalogue of winning photos is published after each competition.
An End of Year banquet and awards ceremony is held in June when all images previously receiving Awards and Honorable Mentions compete to determine Gold, Silver, Bronze and Best of Show winners in each competition category.
The S4C also sponsors an international salon or exhibition each year that is recognized by PSA and other international photography organizations for those people who are striving to attain recognition standings in those organizations. There is an entry cost to participate in the international exhibition.
