In-Person and Zoom Meeting – Mel Moncrieff

Mel will talk about many aspects of bird photography, including equipment needed, camera settings, field techniques, and even his post-processing workflow. He will talk about several local locations to shoot birds, as well as places he has been around the world for his bird photography. As a “Top Contributor” to the Facebook group site, San Jacinto Wildlife Area-Birding, and will help us, in particular, learn how and when to use that location for wildlife viewing and photography.

Here is the audio file called “Mobbing,” from Cornell University, that will attract a wide variety of birds to come to see what’s making that interesting avian racquet.

Our in-person and Zoom meetings open at 6:30 pm for a social time before the presentation. Visitors are always welcome.

Presented by Mel Moncrieff

Mel Moncrieff is a retired Nursing Educator and avid nature photographer. He credits his learning of photography partly to attending Redlands Camera Club meetings many years ago, having learned from Frank Peele and several others many of you would know from the 90’s in particular. At the beginning, Mel started shooting landscapes, National Parks in particular, and then moved on to underwater photography. During Covid, he began to focus on bird and wildlife photography.

Mel has photographed wildlife in Africa, Central America, Asia, many places around the world. His favorite place for birding locally, however, is the San Jacinto Wildlife Area. He is also known to frequent Yucaipa, Prado, and Irvine Regional Parks. He lives in Running Springs, where he shoots many birds which come to his feeders.
