In-Person and Zoom Meeting – Christine Pense
Our native prairies are disappearing rapidly, causing many resident species to lose their habitat. As photographers, we can document the environmental changes and add visual impact to the outreach efforts to save our planet. The Chicks On A Grouse Trip project started in February 2021, when Sandy Zelasko and Christine Pence came across an active greater sage grouse lek early on a cold morning in Utah, somewhere close to the Mormon Pioneer Trail. The presentation covers our journey, our photographic experiences, and conservation efforts to raise awareness of the state of our native lands as told through exciting pictures of mating grouse.
This will be both informative and interactive. Christine will bring a tent, stool, tripod, and plastic birds for us to try prairie chicken photography. It is just a simulation, but it should be fun. Please bring your camera, tripod, a short/medium zoom lens, and a sense of humor!
Our in-person and Zoom meetings open at 6:30 pm for a social time before the presentation. Visitors are always welcome.
Presented by Christine Pense
Christine currently is the Past Chair of the Photographic Society of America Pictorial Image Division. She is a published author and award-winning photographer. While she photographs across several genres, she really enjoys photographing wildlife and has traveled widely across the world in pursuit of images. Her recent work focuses more on birds as she has found this to be a rewarding and challenging genre. Find more of her work on https://500px.com/p/ccpence. Using social media to document travels in general, for this project we set up a blog https://chicksonagrousetrip.blogspot.com to keep track of our observations and to share with those interested specifically in our findings.
